Disclaimer: Fandom 5K (jackwabbit and dragonfly_sg1) are not responsible for the actions of participants, or the injuries they may or may not receive while trying to achieve super running powers. If you have reason to suspect the legitimacy of a fundraiser/race please notify us.
Challenge yourself! Participants who sign up for Fandom 5K will be doing so to run a 5K race of their choice by June 30th. (No, you don’t have to win.) If runners choose to, they can raise money for the good cause they’re running for by offering a fan work to a winning donator. How the runner would choose the winning bidder/donator is up to the runner. (Top bidder/donator, random selection from multiple top bidders/donators, etc...) Or, they could opt out of fandom works and just run, baby, run!
This is a great way to get into, or keep in shape with loads of support and motivation! And it’s for a good cause!
Still trying to work out all the details/kinks, so if you have any suggestions or questions please let me know! You can offer fandom works in any fandom and only offer that which you’re comfortable with. (Lengths, genres, etc…) Fan works for the winners will be due two months after the runner’s running date.
Whether you raise money by auctioning off fandom skills, bugging every family member you have, or sitting on the curb with a tin can, we don’t care. Just bring in the dough for your cause!
If you really want to participate, but not run, of course you can walk. It's all about raising money for good causes and supporting each other while we do it!
If you’re interested, but need to get into shape and think you don’t have the time—“Couch to 5K” only requires 25 minutes, 3 times a week.
If you join, not only will you be in kick ass shape come spring (or fall depending where you are), be raising money for a great cause, and showing the world that fandom geeks rock hard…you might even get a Fandom 5K hat (or shirt) to wear at the race! I know, the hat decided for you, didn’t it. *nods*
I know, it’s a huge commitment. We’re not only asking you to run/walk 3.1 miles, but also find some way to raise money (and possibly complete a fan work). Your awesome will be shining.
** You do not need to have a race picked out to join and start training with us. ** If your races don't typically have fundraising, you might be able to find a separate good cause to raise money for while participating in a race. **The focus of this comm is to SUPPORT people in their personal goals of fitness, and raising money for great causes. Everyone has different levels of training/fitness/experience--from first time marathon walkers to experienced runners. We're happy to have EVERYONE. This isn't, "I can run/walk faster than you." This community is, "Hey, I'll support your goals, whatever they may be and TOGETHER we will be AWWEEEESOME!"
So, please don't feel intimidated by more experienced racers. Everyone who has gotten where they are, had to begin where they were. I'm sure this won't be forgotten by the more experienced either.
If you're participating in a race, grab a banner!! Please link back to Fandom 5K until your runner's profile (see "links" for template) is up. Then feel free to link to your profile post. More banners will be added as needed.
